City Bike Share in Tirana: What Is Actually Running in 2026?

We have actively watched for public bike-share bikes around Tirana for the last two to three years. We have not found a dependable network that we would send a visitor to today. We saw BinBin bikes briefly during 2025, after its orange scooters had been visible for longer, but the bikes had disappeared by autumn 2025. We have not seen Mobike bicycles around the city since at least 2022, or a staffed Ecovolis system during the time we have lived here.
That is local observation, not proof that a station cannot exist somewhere we missed. The historical services were real, and this guide separates what dated records document from what a rider can reasonably expect to find now.
Is there a city bike share near me in Tirana?
If by city bike share you mean an app or membership that shows nearby public bicycles which can be unlocked and left elsewhere, we could not verify a dependable network currently operating in Tirana during our August 2026 review.

Operator availability can change faster than map pins and travel articles. Before walking to a supposed station, look for a live Tirana fleet map, current local prices or terms, and a recent operator or municipality update.
Tirana’s bike-share timeline
Ecovolis: an early staffed system
Tirana had a genuine public bicycle system before today’s app-based fleets. The EU-supported CIVITAS launch report said Ecovolis launched in March 2011 with four staffed stations of 10 bicycles each, and that 2,000 subscriptions had been sold by May.
CIVITAS described the service as “entirely people-powered.” Attendants checked bikes in and out, rather than automated docks. It was a PASS-led public initiative supported by Tirana City Hall. That history is worth preserving, but a 2011 announcement or an old “Ecovolis station” map label does not prove a bicycle is available there now.
We found no current fleet map, rider terms or recent operator notice that would let us confidently direct a visitor to Ecovolis in 2026. We have also looked for a staffed system in person and have not seen one operating, though it remains possible that we missed a station.
Mobike: the dockless-app era
Mobike brought dockless bike share to Tirana on 8 June 2018, according to a contemporary launch report. The municipality’s launch account said the private service began with 500 bicycles and explained how users located and unlocked them through an app.
The rollout did not become a lasting network. In February 2020, Gazeta Si reported that users could no longer find the bikes, the Albania social account had been quiet since July 2019, and the app was unavailable in the main app stores. BikeTirana’s team has travelled around Tirana regularly and has not seen Mobike bicycles since at least 2022.
BinBin: real e-bikes, briefly
BinBin first entered Tirana with orange electric scooters. Its 2025 annual report records the Tirana scooter operation beginning in July 2024 and e-bike operations beginning in Albania in August 2025.
On 19 September 2025, a BinBin international-operations executive described the launch of 300 e-bikes in Tirana. We treat 300 as the company’s announced figure, not an independently audited fleet count.
We saw some of those bicycles around the city for a few months. By autumn 2025 we no longer saw them. BinBin’s annual report says its e-bike operation ended for operational reasons and all company activity in Tirana ended in October 2025. An undated app page or location listing is therefore weaker evidence than the company’s later dated filing.
Why “near me” results can be wrong
A local search can mix several different things:
- a former bike-share station whose map listing was never removed;
- an operator app with no current Tirana service area;
- a staffed bicycle-rental shop;
- a tour company that supplies bikes only with a guided ride.
A directory result proves that something was listed. It does not prove today’s fleet, opening hours or availability.
A share-like alternative from BikeTirana
BikeTirana is a staffed rental, not dockless bike share. Normal collection and return are at our New Bazaar shop, but we can sometimes arrange paid delivery and collection within the Tirana Ring. That must be agreed in advance and depends on the address, timing and staff availability.

What comes with a BikeTirana rental
Every confirmed rental includes:
- the selected bike, fitted to your height;
- a separate chain lock;
- mudguards where fitted to that bike;
- a helmet;
- a short handover and help if something goes wrong with the rental.
Lights, bells and safety vests are not guaranteed across the whole fleet, so they are not listed as standard inclusions. If you need a particular item, ask before booking.

Most visitors staying in the centre are well served by a city bike. Compare the current e-bike options if you plan to leave the centre, ride in summer heat or keep a mixed group together.

How renting works
- Book online when possible. The rental page shows the live options, current checkout price and card payment.
- Ask questions on WhatsApp. Use WhatsApp for fit, groups, longer rentals or possible paid delivery and collection.
- Collect at New Bazaar. We are open daily from 09:00 to 17:30. You can ask in person, but without a reservation we cannot guarantee that the bike you want will be available.
- Get fitted and ride. We adjust the saddle, hand over the helmet and chain lock, and answer local questions.
- Return as agreed. Normally that is the New Bazaar shop; any different collection point must be confirmed beforehand.

- Open: daily, 09:00–17:30.

- Payment: card through online checkout; card or cash at the shop.
- Availability: advance online booking is preferred; walk-ins depend on the bikes remaining that day.

Tirana has cyclists even without public bike share
The lack of a dependable public fleet does not mean Tirana lacks cyclists. The municipality’s official 2024 counter report recorded 2,180,474 bicycle passages across counters on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, Kavaja Street and Luigj Gurakuqi Street.
Those are passages past sensors, not unique cyclists or complete city-wide trips. A commuter can be counted more than once, and the municipality notes that one counter was faulty in February and March. Even with those limits, the numbers show substantial bicycle use on the measured corridors.
A 2021 EU Urban Mobility Observatory summary of Tirana’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan includes promoting cycling and micromobility among the city’s transport strategies. Tirana has useful central lanes, but junctions, parked vehicles and outer roads still require attention.

Riding safely from central Tirana
- Use separated cycle lanes where practical, while watching driveways, junctions and bus stops.
- Check that the bike feels right before leaving and tell the team immediately if it does not.
- Lock the frame to a fixed object whenever you stop.
- Stop somewhere safe before using your phone or changing your route.
- Choose familiar central roads and lanes for a first ride rather than improvising on faster outer roads.

A note on how we checked this guide
We searched in English, Albanian and Turkish and prioritised dated first-party records: BinBin’s regulatory filing, municipal data, EU/CIVITAS records and contemporary local reporting. We also checked in person while living and travelling around Tirana.
That method still has limits. We may have missed a station, a small pilot or a short-lived operator, and availability can change after publication. Historical reports prove that a service existed; they do not prove that a bicycle is available today. Last reviewed: 27 August 2026.
